  • No On Side Kick ?

New kickoff eliminates the onside kick, so if you score with under 2 minutes and need another score you lose.

Onside kicks still allowed in 4thQ. The biggest change is the new rules for regular kickoffs. Looks like they are trying to reduce touchbacks but also looks harder to score a TD.

I think you can still try a traditional onside kick, but you need to say you are attempting it in advance. No surprises anymore.

Now we'll never see the surprise onside kick from a team kicking off at midfield after a penalty. I was always surprised the Eagles never tried that given how aggressive/analytical they are. Seemed like low risk for a chance at possession.
