My guess is that the leak came from Vinny's agent - letting other teams know that he's going to be released. Its kind of a dickish move, but now the other teams know it and Philly doesn't have the leverage to ask for much in a trade. Its happened before - this way the player gets to pick his new team instead Philly choosing it for him.
