i was wondering if it made it easier to keep him under control after 2018. at first i thought it definitely did - they wouldn't have to use the franchise tag to keep him around. but he'd still have to agree to the mutual option. and he has no reason to agree to it. the only possible reason would be to do the eagles a solid and net them a draft pick in return for the extra money and fame, but that would have to be a blatant CBA violation.

His contract for 2019 pays him 20M. If something happens to Wentz this year and he has to start again, he can pick up another 13-14M in incentives if he hits certain targets.
