Songs about blue collar middle class life.
It always worked for me.
This episode of Cold Case went well with his music.

Many people say you have to see him in concert to really appreciate his appeal. I tend to agree.
I saw him perform live one time at the old Brendan Byrne arena in NJ. The person I was sharing an apartment with was working for Sony/CBS at the time and gave me free tix. It was a pretty good show but I never went to see him again.--------

THE ONE SHOW I SNUCK INTO HE PLAYED FOR OVER THREE HOURS. AMAZING CONCERT, TOTAL ENERGY. THAT BEING SAID, I DON'T RUN HOME AND POP IN HIS ONLY CD I OWN, SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE, BORN TO RUN.

His first three albums (Asbury Park, East Street Shuffle, Born to Run) were basically musical poetry, portraying life from a unique perspective. Eventually he drifted into the vicious cycle of pop music, writing circular, repetitive tunes with very little emotional appeal. Catchy, but fairly innocuous.
