  • Wentz is good when Dougie protects him

Thus far, Wentz has looked like the QB that he did for the first two weeks of last season.

He's not a guy that you want to drop back 50+ times a game. For a high-scoring team in today's NFL, the Eagles were very run-heavy last season. Wentz only had one good game last season when Dougie went pass-happy. That was the STL game. Obviously Wentz got hurt in that game, but that injury could have happened regardless of run/pass balance.

In Wentz's other big games - vs Arizona, vs Washington, vs Denver, vs Chicago, @ Carolina - he was dropping back 35 or so times a game. When this team got on track last season with victories vs NYG and @ SD, it was because Dougie started protecting Wentz after abandoning the run @ KC.

The current RBs are capable. Ajayi and Smallwood had great ypc averages yesterday. Wentz was unsustainably good on third down last season, but it helped that Dougie ran the ball on first and second down, and was even willing to run it on third down. The opposing D always had to respect it.
