PS - The media and WFAN callers up here did not weigh in on the value of running with a non-premier running back.

However, they do feel that HAVING a premier running back and not running him in the second half is dumb as fuck.

That was nice, but I stand by my statement.

I don't have as much of an issue with him running to the outside, because he has been able to get to the edge and around it enough to make it not a completely dumb ass move.

I agree with all of this (except for maybe keeping Ajayi), but Adams could still be a great find. He looks like he could play the Blount role and keep this offense around a 50/50 run pass ratio.

The thing about Ajayi is his style is just so unique compared to any other back they’ll have. He’s difficult to tackle, so I think you want that, even if it’s just 5 carries per game.

That’s going to have to be be the recipe the remainder of the season. 50/50 run pass ratio or close to it. Gotta chew up clock & limit the time the D is out there. Especially with the current ranks.
I'm a firm believer in not overpaying for running backs but these guys have not passed the sniff test this year. They just do not look consistently NFL quality. Maybe Clement is finally back in form and Adams really is a #1 and all the answers are balancing the run/pass ratio. Worth a try.

You can find them without using a #1 but running backs are not all created equal. I still think the Eagles are missing a RB.

Possibly the recipe should be more games against the Giants.

I think that Adams is NFL quality and Clement is a role player, but they still need another guy.

I wouldn't spend a first, but I think they could go RB in the second next year. Possibly a good receiving back to fill the Sproles role that Pederson appears to be obsessed with.

I think it’s an area we can improve upon for sure. I’m not sold on adams as a feature back. Clement is hit or miss. Both looked good last week but it’s one of the worst Defense ms in the league.

need to try to keep pounding the ball though for reasons laid out in this thread previously.

                    I hope you're right

Too early anyway. He still has a very small body of work. It's not like we have a lot of options anyway

I'm not saying Adams is a feature back. Just saying he can play a little at the NFL level. Backup quality or part of a committee.

Probably just old age but I hate these running back committees. Give me a thirty carry back.

I tend to agree but there aren't that many thirty carry backs around. I thought what the Eagles had last year worked ok.

                            but you want a bellcow?

Yeah, it's old age. You can almost never have both of those - by the time they develop they're close to FA. Otherwise, you're just sending 4ths and 5ths on lotto ticket RBs

Do we know what Adams is yet?

Here is an excerpt from WalterFootball on why he wasn't drafted:

"During the 2017 college football season, Notre Dame running back Josh Adams was discussed at times as a contender for the Heisman Trophy, which was valid praise as Adams was the engine of the Fighting Irish squad that went 10-3. Notre Dame had a tremendous rushing offense with a phenomenal offensive line and Adams carrying the rock as its feature back. Adams averaged 6.9 yards per carry in 2017 for 1,430 yards with nine touchdowns while the passing attack really struggled and teams sold out to stop the ground game. Adams was injured for a lot of the leadup to the 2018 NFL Draft, but he had a solid pro day workout. Surprisingly, Adams did not get selected and fell to the undrafted ranks.

Sources from multiple teams said that Adams went undrafted because of medical concerns. At his pro day, it was revealed that Adams had a foot injury that would require surgery. The surgery is said to have occurred after the pro day. Multiple evaluators said it was the foot injury, the surgery, and medical red flags caused Adams to not get selected in the 2018 NFL Draft"

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I THOUGHT HE COULD BE A DECENT RUNNING BACK, BUT REALLY STRUGGLED EARLY ON. HE MAY BE ONE OF THEM BACKS THAT NEED TO GET THE BALL OFTEN TO GET INTO A RHYTHM.

MAY BE A GEM IN THE MAKING.
