  • Bennett being shopped?

Unless this is out of absolute necessity, this seems like a bad idea

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly are shopping defensive end Michael Bennett in a possible trade and it likely has something to do with Brandon Graham's new contract.

    I don't like this.

It would definitely be about money.

33 year old DE would be worth a...6th?

I think if he's traded he frees up something like 6 or 7 million. 6th round picks have their use and this recent management has found some talent at the back end of the draft.

Bennett was fantastic last year but the cap is the cap. Have to hope that Barnett comes back healthy next year and they get something from Sweat or "fill in draft pick".

        Graham, Long, Bennett, Barnett, Sweat.

It's a very deep DL draft. I don't expect them to roll with these 5.

I don't like this at all. Dude was awesome last year. Always around the quarterback. We need as much of that as we can get, particularly with Schwartz's scheme.

            Yep.

Someone has been doing their cap space homework.

              Just can't keep everyone.

If they’re serious about trading Bennett, they have a big-ticket free agent they’re targeting. I don’t think it would be another DE, I think that comes via trading up in the draft. Coleman is a nice RB, but I doubt they’d need to trade MB to afford him.

I suspect this means they’re making a run at Le’veon Bell.

Especially if they are not a F.O. team guy.

I love Bennett’s play and locker room attitude last year, but he has a history of not being as supportive to coaches and staff.

                    Well, if that's the case...

Bennett was productive, well-liked, fit the culture (even after a rocky introduction)... He plays a premium position on a manageable contract, on a team in win-now mode. Plus, he was one of Howie's genuine coups.

If they're looking to move him, there's a big reason behind it. Antonio Brown could also be a possibility, but I have a little more faith in Howie than that. Brown is stone cold crazy. Bell isn't. He's a perfect fit for this team.

Another thing. With many of these de's being franchised...Bennett's value could be thing up.

I agree that it sounds like they're making a run at Bell.

My initial thought was that they'd traded for Bennett last year because they didn't expect to be able to keep Graham around. But now thinking about both Jernigan and Bennett possibly being gone, I think things are lining up for Bell.

IDK. I get that they want to go for it while Wentz is still on his rookie deal. But I think they could shore up RB with a cheaper free agent and a 2nd round pick, while "going for it" by keeping the DL together. We'll see.

I'd be fine with that, too. But I'd be lying if I said adding Bell wouldn't be every bit as exciting as the Phils adding Bryce. It would probably help them fill holes after the draft with 2nd tier veteran FA's chasing a ring as well. The excitement surrounding the team would be off the charts.

I also think they're going to package one of those 2's to move up for an impact guy like Oliver, so they're going to want maximum flexibility with that other 2 to take the best DE/OL/WR/S on the board, especially with no third rounder.
