The NCAA Championship Game has always been played in April.

This is correct. The title game used to always occur in March. Since the field expanded to 64 teams, the title game has sometimes been played in March. I'm not sure how expansion to 68 times, and conference tournaments affect this, but the title game hasn't been played in March since 1999 and that seems unlikely to happen again.
