Ha! My wife did post doc work there, and different programs seem to carry different prestige. Personally, when I think of CA, I think Stanford.

Similarly, WashU calls itself the Harvard of the Midwest.

Just confirming what I just said, Stanford's acceptance rate is 5%, USC's is 17%. Both still respectable. Standford blows them away in terms of endowment.

That used to be its rep. But having said that, someone made the correct point above that it depends on what school within the university you're talking about. The film school is pretty good. Probably the best.
