How do you know he is trying to amaze and awe the opposition with Chip Ball? I don't see that at all, we have no idea what "Chip Ball" is at this point. They hit free agency to fill needs so we could go into the draft and go after 'best available' and that is what they have done. To me the defense is better already by the subtractions...the defense was so soft because of the personalities on the team and it showed and I think we can safely assume with the free agent additions, the defense will not be soft next year.

Based on the moves to date, our offense is much improved as well...again we have no idea what Chip is going to do so your "Chip Ball" statement is off base at this point.

Maybe so, but he is not trying to slowly re build this team. He is trying to surprise and amaze the opposition with chip ball. May confuse teams at the start but unless tree is a defense out these that can hold teams to under 30 pts, it will be a disaster. Barkley or Vick?? Seriously???

Chip and crew didn't get talent in FA. They got cheap players off bad years. Fletcher and Chung were benched. Phillips can't stay healthy. As bad as Nnamdi and DRC were, they weren't that bad. Connor was miserable last year. This is the worst defense in the NFL and it might not be close. On offense, this team isn't that much better other than getting the OLine back. The TE play should be better, but Johnson is raw and there is a stud LT coming back. Can Johnson even be swung to the right side or is he too raw?

Didn't get talent?!?! You have a point regarding some of these players being bargains and some coming off injuries or down years but they all are talented and this is not up for argument not to mention the passion they play the game. The one common denominator of these guys is how they approach the game. This will not be the worst defense in the league and I feel will be much improved over last year...got rid of the piss poor soft attitudes and replace them with passion...

Fletcher was allowing a catch rate of only 47% and holding opposing quarterbacks to a rating 55.8 prior to being injured and Fischer went with and stayed with the young guys. The knock on Fletcher is aggressiveness and has a tendency to draw more than his fair shares of PIs.

Cary Williams admittedly played poorly to start the season last year but got increasingly better as the year wore on and then had a huge playoffs and arguments have been made that he was their best player throughout.

Chung was benched and the hope is a change of scenery will help him but he most certainly has talent and is an upgrade over Coleman and Allen as is Phillips if (and it is a big if) he can stay healthy but now the wild card becomes Wolff whom I think can excel in this league.

I felt like throwing my TV out the window watching our POS Soft defense last year and the two biggest culprits were Nahmdi and DRC so adios motherfuckers...I would take a Izell Jenkins and Mark McMillian over those two.

NE secondary always sucked monkey balls. Asante was probably the best CB Belicheck ever had. We are just picking up other teams garbage.

NE has always placed more emphasis on the run. they were #6 against the run last year. they only have an average pass rush so they don't emphasize pass defense.

They play more zone too. Never liked zone
