I put on the TV to check the weather for the day and it happened to be on The History Channel -- or just History as it now calls itself -- and caught the last three minutes of a program on Valley Forge.
Pardon me if I get serious here, but how in the HELL did Ben and the boys A) beat the British with a rag tag army of farmers, teachers and other assorted ordinary men -- and B) fashion a relatively new system of government that, while we all have our bitches from time to time, has turned out pretty damn nifty and is flourishing 200-plus years later?
Yeah, 200-plus years is about a quarter-inch on the yardstick of the history of man, but still, it doesn't make sense that it would succeed. Unreal.
By the way, thanks to all for your birthday wishes of yesterday. Twas appreciated (especially those of you who also sent me greetings on Facebook).
