Unless the filmmakers actually heard him (and Im pretty sure they didn't) no amount of reasearch prevents the voice depiction to be anything more than a guess.

          You Missed A Word

There are guesses -- and then there are EDUCATED guesses.

As much as is humanly possible, DDL researched the subject of Lincoln's voice and came up with what historians and educators who are far superior to me on the subject, have said was as close AS CAN BE DETERMINED to Lincoln's speaking voice.

I'll go by their statements, thank you.

Which, of course is not at all. It can't be determined whatsoever!

              You're Talking Absolutes? You're Right

But when contemporary reports from people who heard Lincoln, talk about his high, nasal voice, it's obvious we're not talking James Earl Jones!

Everybody knows there are no recordings, but there IS a wealth of recorded statements and histories on the subject......

Yeah, everyone of those experts were around to hear DDL, what a schmuck you are to believe it.

                          your premise makes no sense

basically what happened was they did research and IMAGINED what he would sound like and DDL projected what they imagined. yet it was a realistic portrayal?

I dont think the flick was that great, either. Was expecting a lot more the way you raved about it.

Wow. Just had a lesson with my Spanish teacher and I realize that Kelly Green's position is a great chance to use the subjunctive mood!

All of this stuff about DDL's voice is subjunctive, except for KG's opinion which is definitive!

Might have to work this into my next lesson! F U Rosetta Stone!
