I thought manslaughter was the appropriate charge

And he should have been convicted. You are starting to sound like la la - all gun owners want to kill people

      I'm not sure that's correct.

From what I've read (and it's only what I've read) what was waived was the pretrial SYG immunity hearing not the SYG defense itself.

I don't know exactly how they proceeded at trial, but my understanding is that they could have argued generic self defense or SYG, or both.

        Thanks.

This brings tweaking Riccardo and clapping like a school girl back into play.

No. But the lesson I draw from this is that if you want to kill someone you can start a confrontation with them and pull out your gun at the moment you deem appropriate and kill them. Apparently it's legal in Florida.

Especially if you have no witnesses around.

              again I'm no lawyer

But that's premeditated murder. Unless your point is if you just want to kill some random person on the street you never met before, but if you were that kind of psychopath, why bother starting a fight?

This is almost as complicated as Eldrick's drop at the Masters.

He brings the SYG law back into play which will allow me to bring up erroneous attachments that don't necessarily support my contentions, but may tweak you no the less.

I'm looking for good school girl clapping material as we speak.

Hmmm i thought i read that they waived the defense but i very well could be wrong. My Bad. Either way i'm pretty sure at trial they proceeded strictly with a standard statutory self defense. Edited - the reason being (my understanding) that under SYG if you initiate the confrontation you cannot use it, or at the very least it gets much murkier. Under Florida's statutory self defense statute I don't believe that plays as much of, if any role. Again though, im going off my recollection, which may be iffy haha.

Anyways, it seems we both agree manslaughter would have been justifiable.

I tend to believe that the SYG defense was used

The reason why the Zimmerman waived his right to an SYG immunity from a judge was to avoid misinterpretation from a jury had he lost his immunity request.

Actually, it seems more evident from my readings, and I'm no lawyer here, that the SYG (If you're reading Riccardo: implemented by Jeb Bush and the self-defense claim has gone up three fold since) was indeed the defense.
