Doesn't Chip prefer a different type of WR anyway?

For some reason I thought he liked the Benn/Cooper model that is tall and will allegedly fight for catches downfield along with strong blocking for the run game.

    Blessing in disguise. Just kidding.

But seriously, my positive memories (memory?) of Maclin (unbelievable TD vs. foreskins) are tainted with the drop in the Falcons game and getting the ball punched out during the 49ers game.

His loss does reduce the PR options, though.

There's not a player on this roster that can replace Maclin. The progress hasn't been made because the QB stinks (Ex: DJax). This season is a wash anyway. I don't care if the entire roster goes down. This team needs to 'Hinkie'. Just lose baby.

Those that don't care, wouldn't have noticed I was gone. You on the other hand...

We will see. I don't recall seeing many white guys with ponytails succeed at wideout in the NFL. If people think Maclin has trouble staying healthy, they may want to google Benn.

Maclin simply wasn't that good. That's why he is replaceable. The Eagles should be able to substitute for his production. It wasn't like he was consistently drawing double teams.

Having Maclin on the field vs. any other WR isn't going to change the way the opposing defense operates.

I don't see it as a coincidence DJax is regressing, also.

Yeah, first off, I'm not sure the fall off to Avant is that big. Clearly, Maclin is a faster player, but this whole idea that he is a highly consistent receiver is hogwash. His five percent drop rate is too high for what he is. Meanwhile, you have a deep threat guy on the other side who didn't drop a pass all season. I just don't see how the intermediate route guy with the dropsies somehow became the "consistent" guy.

The problem the Eagles will have is replacing Avant in the slot if they shift him into Maclin's role.

                      Is this a typo?

For the record, before last year, DJax had one of the highest drop rates in the NFL.

So let's look at who they can realistically keep

It's either 5 or 6 WRs, right? The candidates:

                        Jackson
                        Cooper
                        Avant
                        Johnson
                        Benn
                        Momah
                        Shepard
                        Cunningham

First off, I highly doubt they make a significant move for another receiver.

Following Maclin's injury, the only lock I see is Jackson, and potentially Cooper.

Johnson has a real good shot due to his use as a returner.

Avant is Avant, and may or may not be what Chip wants. I think a preseason game or two will show us his value. If he gets significant snaps in the first half of a fake game, he's probably OK. If not, could be released.

So...that leaves Benn, Momah, Shepard, and Cunningham fighting for one or two spots (3 if Avant is cut loose).

Same for me, the drop at the end of the detroit game while the eagles d was imploding stands out as well. Maclin has never lived up to his first round billing, and that is probably some of the shoddy qb play helping with that.

I guess things got slow at the Cowboys board.

Seriously, though. Cooper's a lock. He's too good on ST. Shepard and Johnson are slot guys, but I doubt Chip lets Avant go since he's all about leaders/character guys. Plus Avant is another ST stud. Really, it's Cooper, Benn or Momah for Mac's spot IMO.
