The whole ninth inning on both sides was gruesome.

You can see it in their faces ... "how are we going to fuck this up tonight?" is in the bubble over the Phillies dugout.

            They should have sold Papelboner;

            While they had the chance.

They should have moved Ruiz, Young, Utley first.

All three of them actually had a market ... as opposed to Papelbon, who's contract was an issue.

I've defended Amaro to friends who forget that he got Halladay and went for it with the Pence deal in the year the Phils had the best team in baseball.

You can't blame him because Lee blew a 4-run lead, and then Halladay gave up one in nine innings in the last game of the Cards series and those shitbags couldn't score.

              But this is inexcusable.

He had to break up this team and now he'll get nothing.

I share your stance on amaro. Not so long ago he built the greatest pitching staff the Phillies have ever known and they had the most successful regular season in their history. He appears to me to be a little romantic about the notion of keeping guys here that were core guys. I don't know what the offers for ruiz and young and anyone else were and if they weren't upper level prospects than I don't fault him for not doing anything. You don't make trades just to make them, you have to get some kind of value in return. I understand why Rube is getting flak but I don't necessarily agree with it.

Why should he get upper level prospects for Ruiz and Young?

Because prospects are just that, prospects. Not one prospect that Amaro traded in any of his deals has proven to be a legitimate starter. I wouldn't move ruiz or young for the sake of getting rid of them, unless of course it was my own money.

Neither will be on the team next year ... this team is shit.

Call it a hunch but I think ruiz will be here. Young, I'm not sure why he didn't move him but Amaro probably wasn't blown away. If I was selling Young, I'd say to the Yankees that you are getting a .300 career hitter with world series experience who might be the best hitter on his current team and plays a solid third base which appears will be vacant for a long time considering a rod is probably done. Young is owed less than 3 mil by the Phillies for the remainder of the season. Looking at it in those terms than yes I would have been playing hardball with the Yankees. They NEED a third baseman and a bat, the Phillies and rube don't have to do anything but eat the remainder of youngs miniscule (in baseball terms) contract. I'm guessing Rube wasn't impressed with the Yankees offer and didn't want to help them.

                          They don't have anything.

And it gets his money off the books.

And it opens third for Ashe.

                          It was a no brainer.

Utley was the one they should've traded. He had value and would've easily been the best player available at the deadline. He's my favorite player ever, but the time had come.

If they're so persistent on resigning him they should've at least locked it up before the deadline.
