I agree with Two Gap. Right now we are dealing with the aftermath of Reid (FF) and Banner.

There is a lot of bad karma to be cleansed there. It's not like when you had the 1999 team Reid (FF) inherited.

That team had no "stars" but it did have some talent in the rough like Dawkins and Tra Thomas, Trotter, etc.

This team has none of that. The star QB Vick has his own baggage, which when you think about it, it is as big or bigger than than Riley Cooper's.

McCoy has proven to be a decent player but distraction and baggage.

Kelce was with Cooper when the incident happened.

    Who are the leaders here?

I think the Eagles are in a complete rebuild mode until we can get rid of the jagoffs and chump players who were brought in by Reid (FF) at the end of his tenure.

Get rid of the jagoffs first.

I think Reid (FF) lost his way when his children started having problems. I believe it affected the way he judged the actions of players in the locker room and off field.

From Cooper's perspective, this is about the worst organization he could be part of given his situation.

There are three approaches. There's the approach of making a decision short of termination, stick with it, and get on with it. Then there's the approach of making the decision to terminate, stick with it, and get on with it. Then there's the approach of making a half-assed decision, letting the player and indeed the whole organization twist in the wind and look like idiots, and then terminating the player. This, of course, is the Eagles' Way. (Same thing happened with Owens.) You just know Lurie and Roseman are getting ready to give Cooper the shiv while trying to have it both ways.

When you draft as poorly as Reid (FF) did for all those years...

....you start to make bad decisions in an act of desperation. That's where we're at right now. FF threw the character criteria out the Novacare window to try and save his own stupid ass.

I suspect many players don't want to make this easy on management. It's a rare opportunity to stick it to them and make their course of action difficult.

Bad timing for Kelly because he doesn't have enough goodwill built up with players.

The time is now. Cut Cooper and don't let the players carry this ostracism over the coaches head. Or at best, wait until after the first game of the year to see if the team
is satisfied and willing to move on with Cooper as a teammate. If not, then cut him.

Next, instead of trying to win over the locker room (which I suspect was a big motivation to keeping Vick around) identify soft, immature characters and ship them the fuck out.

Edit to add: Also the more difficult the players make it for management, and the more they push to have definitive measures taken against Cooper... the more they lay the ground work for future actions against slur... like gays, women, Riccardo like cross dressers etc..

Poor Chip inherited the cast of Dog the Bounty Hunter

Rednecks and malcontents and no talent hacks.

In all fairness Chip could have brought in another QB. Vick was a free agent. That said, I don't think Vick is the problem with this team not having leaders.

The whole culture of this locker room is weak.

He did bring in another QB. He drafted one...

and brought a couple others in as free agents. Who else should he have gotten? Alex Smith?

That's why I said this is a three year project if we're lucky and so far, luck isn't going our way.

Vick should have never been brought back. Cooper should have been removed from the team immediately. Kelly defers to Lurie as a decision maker in the Cooper affair... not good.

Edit to add: to clarify, Cooper should have been suspended or taken time off for treatment etc.... not terminated.

Been writing this sentiment since last year. Reid lowered his character standard with the trade for TO and the eagles have had questionable character elements in the locker room ever since. Now they are the most unlikable group of athletes assembled in Philly in my lifetime.

Perhaps naively, I believe you can still find talented players of good character. I refuse to believe that every football player is an asshole within the span of nine years.

My hope for Kelly was that he would tear it all down and rebuild from the ground up. The eagles are a continuing presence in the national football sites for all the wrong reasons. Been that way for a few years now. One dick player after the other making some kind of news. I can't stand any of them and it makes it hard as hell to root for them.

Perhaps. While I am not criticizing Kelly's decision to sign Vick it is wrong to say he inheirited Vick. That QB had one foot out the door when Kelly arrived.

Either way, I don't believe the poor attitude of this team has much or anything to do with Mike Vick. In fact, he is one of the few players who doesn't carry himself like a punk, IMO.

I totally agree. I don't understand why the are doing this with a guy like Cooper.....he's a marginal player at best. On most teams he would struggle to make the roster. At least with Owens he had superstar level talent that would be hard to replace. You could sign a guy off the street who would bring more to the team than Cooper does.
