  • The GMs in this town...

    You've got:

    1. An overextended underachieving youngster who's best claim to the spot is that he wasn't responsible for drafts that were marginally more horrible than the draft he was responsible for.

    2. An apparent nerd who uses statistics and finishing orders in his latest game of Dungeons and Dragons to determine which players are worthwhile.

    3. A legacy who disavows any use of statistics and looked good only when reflecting a real GM when he was the assistant and who apparently is too full of himself to ask his ex boss for help.

    4. A guy who's playing career was characterized by toughness but not necessarily braininess, who the owner seems to like for reasons unknown.

That's your collective group of GMs.

I'd rank them Homgren, Hinkie, Roseman then Amaro.

In Claude Giroux, Holmgren drafted a blue-chip, franchise player in the middle of the first round. While he had made some real bad decisions that along seperates him from the rest of the dreck on this list.

Hinkie is pretty much an unknown who is tanking the season in order to get the type of building block that Holmgren already found. If it were any other league I would not condone such tactics but the NBA is feast or famine and Hinkie is just playing the starving hand he was dealt.

Roseman is a bad GM. This has already been proven. I had hope for this guy but it has become pretty clear that the only thing he is going to provide are middling drafts and poor judgment in the free agent market.

Rueben Amaro turned a championship roster into a losing franchise in two seasons. He is one of the worst GMs I have ever seen in professional sports. Watching him count the difference between 70 and 75 wins when he should have been dealing parts to replenish his miserable farm system was just too pathetic to watch. He should have been fired the day the season ended. The guy is a fraud.

Except I'd swap holmgren and hinkie and give hinkie the asterisk because he's basically unknown.

Besides drafting G, homer has really missed badly with handicapping signings and miserable trades. His positive is the ability to draft and develop talent which will keep the flyers where they've been the last 5 years. If he ever put together a few decent free agents, they might surprise...

Howie and Pubin Amaro are bums but I agree Raj is worse.

Bobby Clarke drafted Giroux. He forgot his name at the podium.

Ah yeah, clarkey resigned a few months later. Still homer was basically running all the scouting
