He thinks MLB is an "Over 35" league

The only positive is, it's only 2 years, and this move means they won't spend $100 mil on Ellsbury.

I haven't (admittedly) been following the Phills as closely as I used to, but does that sound as awful to everyone else as it does to me?

Did you catch the Owls on TV earlier in the week? Probably Dunphy's most athletic team, but they really lack leadership and and conditioning (hopefully because it's so early in the season).

True ... but it's still relatively peanuts in this day and age.

Just read an article that it gets better defense and maybe decent production for a cheap price so they can spend on other needs.

            Not a terrible thought.

The key, obviously, is if he hits like he did in his career year last season.

              I was not impressed

I saw a little bit of it and the stretch I saw they looked confused on offense.

They'll struggle this year, but could really come together towards the end of the season. It's so hard to judge a team in November...the season gets earlier every year.

                  very true...my gripe is this

Chaney would take his lumps willingly early, but against great teams. That really helped come March. Dunph seems to go the soft route early. I guess he is looking more at W-L record. there are pros and cons to each approach

We've gone from Mardy to Christmas to Khalif. A real nice string of guards who you could put the game on their shoulders.

As you both said, due to the youth, we're lacking that right now. I think in the long term, this team will be very good, because they do have a couple nice pieces, but I don't know if it's going to be this year.

Because of the teams still in the conference this year, this team will take their lumps for sure. Cincy (x2), Memphis (x2), Louisville (x2) and Connecticut (x2). They're going to be playing some tough teams, but bonus for us, we'll have some real good games to go to at Liacouras.
