I saw that article. I don't think the players should be trying to lose, ever. This is entirely on the front office. Are you against what I am saying or are you just being a pussy again?

Again? You mean in general or with regard to the Sixers?

First of all, I think Coach K is speaking from the place of a totally different arena of sports. In the NBA and most professional sports, poor performance can net greater opportunity. He's never coached professional baskeball players, let alone players who make more (any) money than he does. And in general, I think he's a pompous asshole who whines quite a bit.

However, on a basic level, the idea that being terrible to get the best opportunity could be considered un-American as a method for improvement but that's how professional sports are set up to make them competitive in the United States. Somewhat ironically, socialist European countries are a free for all when it comes to sports with massive contracts controlled by supply and demand rather than aiming for parity. The clubs actually trade players for money. Now that's American.

As for the Sixers, I'm fairly ambivalent but their previous methods haven't worked so we'll see how this one goes. I'm not convinced that this method will work either though. Plenty of teams have been shitty and gotten "studs" only to rise to mediocrity or continued shittiness. In the last 10 years, only one team really tanked and won the NBA Title - Boston.

And it didn't even work out how they wanted as they didn't get a chance at Durant or Oden and ended up winning by signing or trading for veteran players.

The other winners were mostly teams that had been consistently pretty good over the years and/or signed a slew of free agents.

As to you your opinion on what they should do, given that the Sixers have decided to go all in on the tanking/go young philosophy it would behoove them to miss the playoffs if they think the talent level next year will make them compete. Hopefully they don't blow it and waste even more of their fans' time and money.

That's what I figured. You tell me - did I live up to your expectations?

I have no expectations. Watching the sixers, they are going to need a messiah to win a championship or at least legitimately contend for one anytime soon (next few years). There are three players that just could be that guy (could be greg oden). Getting a core together with mcw, noel, and their future (hopefully top 3) pick will give them the best chance for sustained success.
