I just don't get all the "hey look at me, I'm gay" does anybody really care if he is gay or not?
Because the fact that someone publicly admits they're gay still gets reactions like it's "attention whoring" means that there is still quite an issue with general acceptance of someone being gay.
If the NFL and the general public didn't care whether or not he's gay, let alone a gay football player, then there would be no need for his lifestyle to be news or for him even to admit it in an effort to get ahead of someone else outing him publicly.
What business of anyone else's is it? Probably just came out for the attention whore status.
If he comes out now, it gives NFL executives more than enough time to digest the situation, and it also will help him with his new teammates. I think his honesty will go a long way, and there won't be that blind side attention that would have been there if he had waited until camp. Whatever team drafts him, the coaches and players will already know what to expect.

I guess I just don't see why the whole world has to know his sexual preference? What difference does it make, if he can play, he'll make the team, if he can't he won't.
Look at it this way, you walk into a gay bar one night, would you feel the need to stand up on the bar top and tell everyone your straight?
Jesus, and I'm labeled as the "conservative" here?

The thing is, he shared it with his teammates before this season, and as you might've noticed, no one can keep a fucking secret. So I would say he was just getting out in front of this before the media spun it as him trying to hide it from NFL teams. He already knew it was going to come out.

I can see that Mel, I guess I just thought that by this time it would be a non- issue that's all. Hence my comment of why is it anyone else's business.

Just says that we still have a long way to go, and this guy didn't wait until he was done playing or at the very end of his career before he did it, that's why it's such big news. all I know and care about is that the guy led the SEC in sacks and was co-defensive player of the year. I hope Chip at least gives him a look.

I guess your right EIO, just don't know if it REALLY is that big of a story, or if the press is MAKING it that big of a story.

he's definitely gonna have to land in the right spot. Places like Miami, Cleveland, or Oakland, would be career suicide for this kid. I do think that he needs to start to shift the story from his sexual orientation to his football skills.
In an interview after the announcement, he stated...
that he did it to control when the info came out. It seems his entire college team knew he was gay as did the coaching staff. They seem to have done a pretty good job of keeping it under wraps, for the most part.
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

Why would Miami be a bad spot? I don't even think Oakland would be a bad place either. Oakland is still in Liberalville. Don't let their fans fool you, they are posers.
