No one suggested that Tebow should hide his religious beliefs. They were just cynical about his NFL Jesus marketing campaign.

No I don't think that at all. I do think much of what is deemed as intolerant of religion is far from intolerance. Many Christians believe that celebrating anything other then Christmas is intolerant of Christians. Or saying happy holidays instead of merry Christmas is intolerance.

There is intolerance to Christianity out there but it is a tiny minuscule amount compared to what homosexuals, Muslims, African Americans or pretty much any other group you can find face.

I am a Christian but I don't agree with the mentality that Christians are the victims or persecution mindset that so many have.

What does that have to do with Tebow being ridiculed because of his religiosity, and the hypocrisy of the media high horsing about tolerating a gay football player?

PS - for what it's worth ... I'm not a Christian and intimately know a number of intolerant born-again Christians who annoy the hell of me ... but I see this.

As I google I found a radio host is tired of tebow and his jesus talk. I have heard radio hosts say basically the same about michael sam.

I seen there was a SNL skitand many peoples claim that tebow is out of the nfl because of his religion.

I have little doubt if michael is as good as tebow in the nfl he wont be on a team either.

I don't want to see any group ripped on for who they are. I just dont see it happening to christians the way it dies to other groups

When Tebow first did his religious display on the field it was not done so with the intention of the Media crush that followed but the NFL never met a marketing angle it did not embrace. The controversy and over the top displays from everyone and anybody kept it in the spot light. I my opinion the religious right are always on the lookout for a reason to speak up about how they are persecuted for their beliefs.

Sam coming out to share his sexuality prior to the NFL Draft smacks somewhat of marketing as well. He spoke to his team in college and his team mates were fine with it he could have did the same with the team that drafted him. There have been many "Gay" players in the NFL but in this so called hyper- male display did not feel the need to come out.

Just please do not compare this to some kind of Jackie Robinson moment in sports because it is very far from the same kind of moment. As a card carrying member of the "I don't really give a shit" as long as it does not affect me. Sexuality should not define us in this day and age any more so than age, race, gender, religion or disability.

Sexuality should not.define us you are correct. But as long as sexuality determines what rights you have. As long as we as a nation treat homosexuals as second class citizens it
Will be lookedat ascuragious when someone risks safety and financial security to pave the wY towards acceptance for others.

Anyone who opens themselves to public perception engages in 'marketing.' To this point, any "Gay" NFL players (not sure why the need for quotations) have felt compelled to 'market' themselves as straight. Now we've got a guy who is finally willing to 'market' himself as gay. It is a big deal because he's doing what others haven't had the courage to do thus far.

I think the recent peeks into the locker-room culture in Miami and Minnesota (the Chris Kluwe fiasco) validates Sam's desire to be open and public in order to allow clubs who'd rather avoid a very touchy subject do so with eyes open.

He's not Jackie Robinson, but he is someone who is going to make life easier for others in the future. Call it self-promotion if you want, but the NFL is all about self-promotion, and his brand of self-promotion is providing a version of role model that is completely lacking in the modern NFL. Christian kids who want to play football have lots of examples to look up to. Gay kids who want to play football do not.

And more of a proactive move. From everything that I've heard, he wanted to break the story himself, because it was going to come out eventually. With all of the scrutiny of the draft coming up, might as well get out in front of it before it comes out a week before the draft.

I don't see the parallel. Maybe if Sam starts wearing rainbow stickers under his eyes.
