So you say its a blocking call.

I think under the new rule, it is a block. But a non-call in that situation would have been appropriate given the situation and amount of contact. They chose the one option of the three that wasn't appropriate.

The NCAA defines the rule as: "Under the revised block/charge call in men's basketball, a defensive player is not permitted to move into the path of an offensive player once he has started his upward motion with the ball to attempt a field goal or pass. If the defensive player is not in legal guarding position by this time, it is a blocking foul."

Do you think Fair is in an upward motion before Hood is set?

although I disagree with your assessment that it was a block under the new rule, I do agree with you, the ref should have let it play out. I know this is wrong, but I almost wish the ref would have played it like an nba call, as in he waited to see if it went in first and if it didn't a late whistle for a blocking foul (that I saw as a charge). I WANTED OT!!!!

Dick Vitale, who loves him some Ratface, made this call as it happened:

Oooooh ... offensive ... Jim Boeheim is livid ... and I don't blame him!!!

Yes. Upward motion isn't in the air. Reasonable people can disagree, but I think it was a block.

I thought the defender was moving into Fair when Fair was in the air ... but I read that it's not in the air (I thought it was) ... it's the start of the upward move.

Regardless ... based on how they've called all year, as the play happened in real speed I thought it was a no call.

                      You agree Vitale?

You think Fair was in an upward motion before Hood is set?

The play watched in real time was a no call ... Vitale said it and Boeheim has never done what he did before that call.

Every commentator on ESPN's post game college b-ball wrap up said it.

                        It's not just me.

I think there is sufficient contact that a call needs to be made. It's not as if Fair is glancing into Hood on an angle. It's straight contact.

What is the main argument for a no call as you hear it, or as you see it?

                              Not a Duke fan.

But I find whining about home cooking, especially by 'coos fans, to be comical.
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

After discussing it, so far I believe: the ref was in a perfect position to make a call (if he wasn't, a no-call would make sense); there was sufficient, straight-line contact that warranted a call; and since a call was warranted, I believe Hood was set before Fair established upward movement.
