Ok, longshot. Chip talks to Desean earlier in the week. He says, we shopped you, we didn't like our offers if you want to stay an Eagle you have ONE LAST CHANCE. Desean seems positive and tweets "talked to big chip all is well" etc etc. The latest story drops, and Chip had enough? I don't fucking know. Cutting him just seems bizarre.

Once that story hit the paper, on top of the cut rumors that were already out there and his contract, it was clear that they weren't getting anything in a trade.
I don't like the move - I think they should have kept him. But, if they were going to dump him no matter what, then there was no longer a point in holding on.

They have a pre draft camp coming up in a few weeks. It's voluntary but if Jackson showed up and got hurt, they would be forced to pay his 10 million. If they didn't cut him before that camp it would be a Steve McNair situation where the team requests the player not show up and wouldn't allow him to work out even if he did.

I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that a market for him would suddenly appear during the draft.--

This is the bandaid pull. They cut him, there's backlash but it should subside. Hanging on to him for a month with no intention of keeping him and little to no chance of trading him seems pointless.--

So it went from "not a forgone conclusion" to "little to no chance"? YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE DRAFT WILL PLAY OUT AND NEITHER DO THE EAGLES. I know you like to argue but don't fucking be a tool about it. One weizer is enough.Last edited by Greenstealth; 03-29-2014, 12:45 PM.

Yes, it is possible a team would have become desperate during the draft and been willing to trade picks for Jackson. I don't think it's likely, which means your argument that a trade would have been more likely to happen ISN'T a forgone conclusion in my opinion.
But, if they felt there was little to no interest and keeping him would likely not have earned them a draft pick why keep him? If they don't want him at pre-draft OTAs do they just pretend he's part of the offense and hurt their other players? Or do they tell him to stay home/on the bench and then assume a desperate team during the draft will suddenly think the eagles will only give him up for a pick and can't just get him when he's released?
It doesn't make sense to me to keep a player around that 1) you don't want and 2) will cause a distraction for an additional month with limited reward. If it does to you, great.--

Unless you would owe him money before the draft why not wait to make a deal at time when the situation was most favorable? At the very worst you end up with the situation the Eagles ended up in... which is you get nothing.
It sounds like HowLo was trying to be smarter than everybody else by attempting to deal Jackson during this recent meeting of the owners. Yeah, he was smarter than everybody else.--------

Yeah, this is why everyone in the league is surprised the move happened now. Players are normally safe through the end of the draft if they make it past the first day of free agency.
Anyone argiuing that this wasn't a fantastically stupid time of the year to cut a player like Desean jackson doesn't know what they are talking about.
