It's not that simple ... it won't add up if another team signs him to a contract that creates a 10.5 million dollar cap hit in year one ... which is what you would get if you traded for the old one.

And there's no way any new contract does that.

How is DeSean on bubble screens? Might be one of the few routes we have time for.
Trent Williams is really good. When you're at the level that he, Peters and Thomas are at, I think it's hard to say any is better than the other. Williams does have the youth so I guess that gives him the edge on the other two.

However, as good as Williams may be, no matter what, the resident Eagles' contrarian Ref was of course going to tell us how someone else is better than Peters.

that cap hit doesn't come until he gets paid, right?

And now he's going to sign with The Redskins????

I feel like I'm on crazy pills! How does this happen? Has it EVER happened?

And the team says nothing about it. Radio silence.

Oh and wait a minute....The Seattle F*CKING Seahawks are Super Bowl Champions.
The Redskins are the only team that desperately seems to want him, and they don't even have the cap room to give him what he wants. I guess they will just be in the red again and pay the penalties, damn they are stupid.

I'm not sure what you're driving at.

Bonus is spread over the life of the contract ... salary is a cap hit in the year paid.

Jackson's old contract had $10.5 in salary for 2014 and similar amounts for '15 and '16.

            Very unattractive.

I guess my point is, the salary hasn't been paid yet (And it’s not going to be paid for a few weeks). So if you’re searching for a missing piece WR, why not trade for him and take the risk on not signing him to a contract? You’ll be able to erase those numbers if you can change his salary around or simply cut him.

I think the eagles take the bonus hit regardless

              I'm probably missing the boat

Actually the bonus hit is accelerated (6 mil for the Eagles who paid a 10 mil bonus that had 3 years at 2 mil each left on the spread-out).

I guess you want could give up a draft pick to negotiate with someone who can say fuck you and get 10.5 million or be a free agent ... but it's not very attractive.

now that i'll give you. But i think the leverage at least adds some value. But you're probably right.

The part that bothers me is the....

                        ..NO COMPENSATION part.

I didn't want the guy, I just wanted something for him. I didn't like when he held out of training camp, I didn't like how he tanked that season, I didn't like how he missed team meetings, I didn't like the showboating, I didn't like his constant whining for new contracts.
