Iggles are kind of screwed either way with Maclin, IMO.

Either he has a great season and becomes a free agent, or he sucks.

The Eagles gave up a lot of contract leverage against him when they let Jackson go for nothing.

I actually think that Maclin sounds like as big a douche as Jackson ever was.

The Eagles wanted to give him a multi-year deal. He only wanted a one year deal, probably because he wants to become a free agent.

If he wouldn't bite on a multi year deal during the offseason, I highly doubt he would bite for one by week 6.

I read the Ashley Fox article on ESPN -not sure if that is the piece you read - but having read the entire article and all of his quotes, i didn't think he came off like a jerk. Pretty much said what anyone would have said. He was complimentary of Jackson as well.

I'm not saying that he isn't whatever source you are referring to or even that he didn't dislike Jackson, but I had a different reaction to the totality of his comments.

Agree about one thing though - he has to prove it.

From all accounts Maclin is a more focused player and student of the game. He runs better routes, has a better YAC than DJax, and his stats were not that far off from Jackson's even though 10 was the more frequent target. I just think he wants to be measured for what he is, not how he compares to the 'other' guy. If his knee holds up I suspect he may be the next Chip player to have a career year.

My opinion...sit back and see what happens.

As for Jackson, Maclin said he hasn't spoken with his former teammate since he was waived. There have been questions about their relationship and whether it soured. Asked about it, Maclin said, "Our relationship is our relationship. It doesn't need to be shared with anyone else."

If he comes out and plays well, the deal will get done.

That's how I took the article, I thought he played it pretty middle of the road, I think some of those comments were stated the way they were because we all know how reporters like to read something into a statement.
