I'm no fan of relying on out-of-context stats (particularly cherry-picked ones), but I'm really starting to come around on Matthews. These numbers certainly help.
I think it might have been Mel Kiper that said if the Eagles had picked Matthews in the 1st, and Marcus Smith in the 2nd, the value would have been spot-on. The depth at WR and lack of depth at pass-rushers just dictated the reversal.
I really think Matthews is going to have a huge role, and might even be getting snaps equal to Maclin and Cooper by the end of the season.Last edited by Dan Drives a Van; 05-19-2014, 11:44 AM.

However, the numbers in the original post were as compelling and valid as statistics can possibly be.....which is why I said in my post that they were really helping me to get behind the Matthews pick. After seeing numbers like that, you have to wonder why Matthews wasn't in the same conversation with Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, and the rest of that tier.
I wasn't discounting the post or it's content....just offering a personal caveat before agreeing.

Too bad Chip Kelly doesn't run a spread offense or love running WR screens or anything.Last edited by Sect 236; 05-19-2014, 03:16 PM.

Besides, I think another poster pointed out the fallacy in your statement. Matthews will have plenty of opportunity to "pad stats" through screens in this spread offense, so he'll likely run by the shit-awful safeties of the Giants several times off screens this year.
