It was a play on the Indians term Paleface......

so the settlers called them Redskins....I'm not so sold on this term being so racist; but I have never had the opportunity to ask an American Indian; so what the hell do I know! I don't believe the teams name has ever been a slur. The word was used at times as a slur, and if the name was ever changed, the word would continue to be used as a slur, possibly more often, and with more power.
