I also recognize the counter-argument. I think it's wrong, but at least Danny Snyder and SE believe it's not racist.

        Snyder is crazy

        Like a racist fox.

He will hold out until the last possible moment, change the name and logo, make a mint off the new merchandise and then somehow find a way to sell the foreskin stuff as retro...

If I'm being honest, I probably won't lose sleep if they don't change it - but it's a chance to needle a team's rival, so that's enjoyable.

You, on the other hand, seem hellbent on defending him. To each his own...
For the record, i could 2 squirts of piss about the Redskins and their owner. Like you, i sure as shit aren't going to lose a wink of sleep worrying if he changes the name of his team for christ sakes. I just find the holier than though attitude of people wanting the name changed, especially when this shit was never brought up until a year ago. I think there is alot of phoniness going on in society today and this board is no different. Aside of what your heard, i am not a racist. I dont think half of the peop,e on this board even know the definition of the word. Calling someone a racist has become far too common in society today and it has been a crutch for minorities to shut people up.

George Preston Marshall HIMSELF said that the name was not meant to honor Native Americans, but let's not let facts get in the way. And who in the hell said anything about the White man ???
Ellen you have become white noise to me. (Dont worry sweetheart, thats not a racist term), you have alot of balls calling me predictable. You have become the Rev Sharpton of Igglephans with the shit you bring to the table.

Here's the thing I think youre misunderstanding. Most people dont believe Snyder is racist. And most people dont care whether the name is changed or not. But more than a few people believe the term to be racist and a majority of those people who are subjected to the racism in the term want the name changed. Something about that bothers you quite deeply. So the least you can do is be a man about this and stop lying about not caring about whether a race of people can use public pressure to get a team to change their racist moniker. You do care about this. You have railed on and on about it for weeks. Your claiming you dont care is the most phony thing going on in this discussion.

Yet you jump into every fucking thread that I post. I've already told you what to do. If you don't like what I say, then stay the fuck out of my threads. You can ignore me quite easily if you want, and if you don't know how to do it, I'm sure that there are plenty of people on this board that would be willing to tell you how. Also, I don't mind being compared to Al Sharpton, so you failed on that attempt as well. It's so simple, ignore me and we don't ever have to conversate again, either on this board or face to face if you ever come to a gayte. I know I wouldn't lose even half a wink of sleep if that happened, but you probably couldn't handle it.

I think the reason that the board is so against the name is just to give a rival shit about something.

That being said, the name is racist and could merit a change. I have some Cherokee ancestry, but I don't really identify as a Native American, so it doesn't personally offend me. But I definitely see how the name is offensive to some.

Alternatively, the name has been around for a long time as a strong brand and barely any fuss has been made until recently, and society in general does go too far with political correctness.

The name probably should be changed, but faux outrage gets us nowhere. Internet "activism" is pointless, toothless, and a bit oxymoronic. I like professional football, so I will continue to watch regardless of team names and mascots. I will also root against the Redskins at least 12 times a year. For those truly offended, real action should be taken. For those not, we can still needle the team as racists, or you can just not give a shit about it and not whine about political correctness. Vehemently arguing either side of it on the internet is silly.

                          That's not soon enough either.

Either object to racist terms on the proper schedule or you're nothing but a holier than thou phony.

There seems to be a notion that only the afflicted minority group mentioned can claim offense, and that's BS. Do I have to be African American to be offended by the N word? Of course not. It's a vile term, and it's an embarrassment to hear any human utter it. Snyder claims that it's okay to use the R word because most Native Americans don't find it offensive, as if that negates the fact that it, too, is a vile and disgusting term.

I think it has gone on longer than most people think, and the media is only recently seeing the groundswell and reporting on it. But still, I see it as a sign that our society is attempting to mature and right the wrongs of the past.

Perhaps we should just rap about it.
