Now, is tipping the best way to accomplish this feat? I'd say no, especially since the tip is based on the price of the food more often than the quality of service. But that is the convention and until it becomes commonplace, declared by law, or explicitly advertised by the establishment that service is included in the food bill and paid directly to the server by the employer it's required.

Outside of those circumstance, if someone goes out and doesn't tip or feel that they are obligated to tip, even if service isn't ideal, they're a dick or an idiot.

And that doesn't mean tip 15-20% for bad service, but you are still being served your food instead of preparing it yourself or even picking it up at the counter.
and what udontknowme repeated. There's no reason that a restaurant should be allowed to pay people $3.00 and hour. This isn't 1941, when that was still a decent living wage. pay these people a good enough wage so that they don't have to rely on customers being generous tippers enabling them to keep the lights on. You have national chains like Olive Garden, Applebees, etc., paying people shit wages. THAT needs to change, and they should let them keep their tips on top of that.

I don't disagree, especially casual and economy dining establishments where the food is dirt cheap and tips are linked to a $10-$15 meal. It would simplify the process.

Regardless, until that's no longer the case, tipping is the mode in which servers are paid for their work. It's not an added bonus like tipping your gardener or plumber and it shouldn't considered the same.

Are you one of those people who think burger flippers at Mcdonalds deserve $15 an hour?

          We always do this

Waiters/waitresses definitely seem to appreciate it more

I tend to do what one of people that left a comment suggested. I like to give tips in cash, even if paying for a meal with a CC. My ex sister in law told me she always appreciated tips in cash when she was a waitress.

I just write CASH in the area where you put the tip amount, leave a cash tip and pay the amount for the meal on my card. That way there is no record of the tip amount, and the restaurant owner doesn't get the money in their CC billing account to begin with.
I do cash when I have it. I just carry cash around with so rarely now that often I have to add it to the CC.

I dont believe its true for a number of reasons, but if there's a place to leave no tip its at PYT. The owner is a complete self aggrandizing whore who would absolutely do this for publicity. The service at PYT is possibly the worst I've ever experienced in my life on more than 1 occasion.

with that said, I always tip 20% +++.

The Facebook comments have a version of the receipt that said Connery/Sean. Although it does look like Shady's signature.

I think you missed the point. Aside from analyzing McDonalds profit/wage/productivity numbers to see how much a burger flipper should make - the issue is that the restaurant industry leaves the service portion a servers earnings up to the customer but allows it to be linked to the price of their possibly poor/cheap food.

I saw some douchebags do that once. What fucking pricks. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised even though it was at a classy joint (Hooters).
