Mark Sanchez, his first two years in NY when he led them to two AFC champ games?

Edit to add: I know you were referring to Eli, but it's actually quite remarkable how much Sanchize's career plummeted after playing fairly well in some BIG games so early in his career.

Sanchez was never really seen as a guy you wanted for a drive at the end of the game ... he was fine when the team had a big time defense and a run game, which he had the first two years with the Jets.

True, I wasn't addressing that comparison. But hypothetically if Sheli was a fourth rounder named Jones, do you think they would have stuck with him?

I don't think Foles is a bum and I think he deserves another chance. However I honestly believe Chip wants that read option guy. I thought Foles beat out Vick in 2013. Kelly went with the mobile QB.

He played better in his second playoffs than he did in his first. Looking back on it now, its easy to say that he never was that guy, but after losing that second title game, in which he played his second best game of his playoff career (best was the week before that against the Patriots) it's hard to imagine anyone thought he was going to take a dive like he did.

"He's struggled at times but he's also flashed some skills at others...He deserves a chance to show us what he's got" resulted in two titles for the Giants, and it resulted in a butt fumble for the Jets. Let's hope, if Chip goes with the same approach, we have the Giants result.

Or, it could just be that Jets gonna be the Jets.

Barring Mariota falling out of the top 10, this is what will happen. It's far too costly to get into the top 5 for this to be feasible. Eckle's source could be just about anyone.

Maybe he goes QB in the 2nd if Hundley is there in the teens. Hell, he might have a sleeper candidate in Bryan Bennett: http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/20...k_bryan_b.html

If Mariota slides, Kelly will take a shot. But I think he's smart enough to see that fixing the secondary for Year 3 will go a long way toward making sure he's here (and getting paid even better) in Year 6

I think Bennett is the guy. Wish I didn't see questions about his arm strength.

I agree with you. Personally I want no part of Hundley. He makes kaepernik look like Rodgers in the pocket.

                    • The Vick thing could have been a veteran vs rookie deal but the mobility angle is food for thought.

Not sure if they stick with manning if he was a 4th rounder but the results support patience as a formula regardless of draft position if the guy shows something that justifies it.

                      • Sanchez never had a rep as a late game guy. Manning did. Aside from a nice long ball it was what all the Eli supporters kept pointing to when he was being run out of town.

Im surprised by this cause i thought hundley was pretty strong in the pocket. I think he needs to grow a lot as a decision maker but your analysis as to his alleged pocket presence deficiency and accuracy doesnt align with what i see in the player.

Im getting flashbacks here so if you could start touting an SEC player you prefer more, amd start calling Hundley "skinny Brett" id feel even better about my evaluation.

                          • Through his first 2 seasons, he had 7 game winning drives, 6 of which were in his second season. Six game winning drives and his best two games as a pro were the last two games of the playoffs. I can't recall for sure, but I gotta imagine Jets fans were pretty excited about giving him a chance and seeing him progress. Unfortunately for them, and him, he only regressed.

Foles had two his first two years (in limited time) but added three last year in just nine games. Count me in as wanting to not mortgage the future for Mariota now and allowing Nicky Franchise another year to see what he's got, while building a better D. However, if Mariota starts falling, and the price isn't that high, then all bets might be off.

Kelly will get a QB this year, that's about the only thing that's certain.

I haven't seen a ton of Hundley to really judge, just know the numbers. I think Kelly will be looking for the combination of Foles' accuracy and Sanchez's mobility. Even if you overlook the terrible, boneheaded INTs -- which you can't -- Sanchez was a little inaccurate even when he completed passes. Passes that were just a foot too high, or just out of reach killed a lot of drives. Foles doesn't have that problem, but I think Kelly will look to add an athletic quarterback anyway in case he hits the theoretical jackpot.

If Mariota is gettable because he does a Rogers-like fall, Kelly will pull the trigger. It'd be almost silly not to if you truly believe there's a potential franchise QB there.

But that almost certainly won't be the case. I suspect Kelly goes defense and OL and maybe trades up to get another 2nd for a quarterback -- either Hundley or Petty -- or go for Bennett in the 5th.

But, honestly, who the hell knows.

                              • I live here ... I know as many Jets and Vagiant fans as Eagles fans ... Manning was seen as a gunslinger ... not Sanchez.

                                Period.

Sanchez was solid as a manager in playoff games with the run game and defense he had (with did have one late drive against the Colts in the first round) and came up short against the Steelers in the second AFCC when they had the ball at the end of the game (I didn't do research, but remember those).
