The execution of the play came down to Kearse not being able to pick Butler, giving him a clear path to the ball. Browner deserves praise for jacking Kearse up and not allowing that to happen. Can't blame Wilson at all its a split second throw expecting his intended WR to be wide ass open.

Blame for the play call itself is another story. Carroll said after the game the threw because NE stayed in goal line D, but looking at the screen shot I can't say he's correct. NE still had 4 DBs in and only 5 down lineman.

Should have given it to Lynch on that play. Its a good formation to spread out NE and let Lynch pick a hole and pound it.

Explaining the unexplainable.

Post game interview, Carroll said the Pats had brought in their goal line defense as a reason for the pass play call. How many goal line defenses did Lynch destroy from the 1-2 yard line?

The OC said they were looking at the clock and wanted to waste as much time as possible. When does a team that is losing a game have "wasting time" as a priority? And aren't running plays the way you waste time?

The only thing dumber than that play call is the absurd explanations for it. And if you call a pass play where all 11 defenders are going to be within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage, you call something that goes to the far corner . Not into the teeth of the defense.

Believe it or not Lynch was only 1-4 this season on goalline plays from the 1 or the 2. That was in a column from Brookover this morning I believe. But there's a new slant that's being put out there now--per PFT.com, going back to the Percy Harvin trade, when there were pro and anti Russell Wilson factions in the locker room, people now believe the coaches were trying to make Wilson the hero instead of just handing it off to Lynch.

I've heard the "only got in 1 of 4 tries" argument and I get it, but it still wouldnt have made me pass. Each game is different. Marshawn failed to gain positive yardage on just two of his 24 carries in the Super Bowl. I don't care what he did in previous games, he was getting yards in THIS game, and that's all that matters.

Analytics tell a lot sometimes, but at the same time, I roll the dice with Beast. Not to mention, since going to Seattle, when the Hawks needed a play, Lynch seemed to make most of them. I would add that Russell Wilson has killed teams all year running the read option in the redzone. I just don't see anyway how you take the ball out of the hands of two of the most successful runners in the NFL right now.

How many of those four carries were to win a Super Bowl? Four carries isn't statistically significant anyway. The Barnwell article in Grantland breaks it down from every angle and concludes that Lynch should have gotten the ball.
