      This looks like the pilot

No idea if he was the one flying or locked out.

when we went on vacation last summer, we just had to fly from Pittsburgh to Ft. Lauderdale, and I was seriously nervous as we were getting ready to take off. It was my first time ever on a plane.

When it comes to flying, total bitch now. I use to fly all the time, did many a flight overseas. Now i cant fly without alcohol. Shit, this thread is giving me anxiety.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Just heard Sullenberger interviewed on CBS. He was being vague but he said there are ways for an authorized person to enter the flight deck even if the person inside is incapacitated. He also implied there are ways for a person inside the flight deck to barricade the door and make it difficult for anyone whether authorized or not to enter.

Also I just heard that a French prosecutor has now said the co-pilot destroyed the plane intentionally.

Just red the story. Apparently you can hear people pounding on the door from the flight recorder. How awful

The video in this post shows how it works. http://qz.com/370386/this-video-show...manwings-9525/

Also this incident reminded me of this story from the 90's: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feder...ess_Flight_705

I heard a report this morning that there is a keypad outside the cockpit that the entire flight crew is well aware of and can use a code to get in. Also the pilot has a button inside the cockpit to deny access as well. Even if the pilot was incapacitated there is no way he could press that lever to hold out the flight crew. It is pretty much a dead man lever that he has to keep his hand pressed on to activate it.

Likewise. I know that it's safer, but I also know that if my car breaks down, I can normally pull over to the side of the road and get out.

But that doesn't stop me from flying.

Another thing that goes through my head has to do with trusting that the pilot and/or crew doesn't want to die, either. So we have a mutual interest in completing the journey safely. Apparently this wasn't the thinking of somebody on that Germanwings crew. Scary shit.

how sick does some one have to be

That they decide to kill themselves and in the process take out 150 complete strangers with them? Basically the same as a suicide bomber

Well there is always the fire potential short of a full-on impact. (I'm quite the ray of sunshine, eh?)

Which is why it was stupid to immediately rule out terrorism so quickly
