I was mesmerized and couldn't look away. The shit they believe and the tactics they use had my jaw on the floor.

I don't get HBO but I'm interested in watching it.

If it shows up on Amazon Prime I will.

Sort of like a BAC with a super-freaked CEO.

I liked the interviews with Paul Haggis

Especially the part when he finally attains a certain level and is told the secret story about Hubbard's lunatic theories and Haggis says "are you fucking kidding me?". Priceless

I only hope this movie will lead to them losing the tax exempt status

Its so damn tough to move from cult to religious status now a days. Who is the last one to pull it off? The Mormons?

                    I kid. I KID!

I taped it ... maybe we'll watch it tonight.

One of the side notes from the movie is that the IRS was a bunch of pussies that probably shouldn't be making the decision on whether a group qualifies or not.

PS - edited to add, but it was an interesting irony that the IRS was getting a taste of it's own medicine in a way

I was completely taken aback by the successful strategy of Scientology. They might have a shitload of money, but the government makes that stuff! What a day of infamy for the IRS.

Yeah, the wife and I watched it last Sunday and we were dumbfounded how anyone could allow themselves to get involved in such a wacked-out ideology. It was almost laughable if it wasn't so scary. I had never seen footage on Hubbard before and damn was that guy a freak show. The way he talked, his phucked-up teeth...uggh.

A longtime online friend told me she has three relatives who were very high up in that crazy cult until they somehow broke away around ten years ago. One of them lectures all over the country telling people what a BS cult it is.

She also said a good friend got involved in it and by the end they had taken her life savings.

                          In a word...bizarre.
