For years it's been federal government policy to provide military equipment to local police. If you combine that with training the police to use military equipment in a military manner it equals militarization to me.

The issue here is the police are given military style equipment but NOT trained in a military style. Troops are trained to try to defuse a situation and use force if need be. They are trained to not shoulder a weapon unless it is needed. Watch ferguson and Baltimore police are running around with their weapons drawn, shouldered and aimed. Not a way to defuse a situation. They are continuously trained on situations of breaking down a door and blowing the bad guys away... Not so much on talking peopledown.

Do you have any idea how many situations where police are involved actually end with a police shooting? Compared to all incidents responded to the amount is I assume less than 1 percent. Take it a step further and involve only high risk incidents such as hostage negotiation and high risk warrants and an overwhelming majority also end without a shot being fired.

The other element of you don't take into account is in my career I would say 40% of my co-workers are veterans so they have had the same training from both.

Yes, I do see these stories all the time, and they fill me with outrage. My heart goes out to good people who can't even feel safe in their own homes.
