I don't get it. Register all guns? With the Federal Govt.? There is no way to register your guns in Montana. There are no gun licenses (concealed carry yes). One can buy a gun off swap shop on the local radio. Everybody owns guns. And track all sales, like Washington just enacted? So I would need federal approval to sell my 22 rifle to my neighbor? And this will fly in the US Senate?
Rural states will go for this? Huh? How about the last election? It's not "the gun lobby", it's the voters in rural States. The US has not changed that much. The Republicans took over the Senate last election.
This country is very diverse, although some don't like it (my brother in NYC believes the South should not be part of the US, due to their beliefs).
I don't really care, as I know nothing in that regard will ever happen here in my lifetime. If the Federal Govt. ever did pass something like this, there would be States
in court for years. Here, even liberal Democrats oppose these kinds of things.
I am just saying all this as you all seem to think everyone thinks like you do, but look around the Us, and look at the Senate. That's why they made the Senate - beware the Tyranny of the Majority. I think many of you are wishing - and not seeing political reality. Maybe that will change with the next election, who knows. But it did change with the last election.
And I am no gun nut. I haven't shot a gun in probably 4-5 years.
And IE is right about rural people around here. I have seen him in Northern Idaho (where I go grocery shopping), and I know he has had to talk to people in bars there, just like he said. That's how most of the people around here are. He knows it.
I haven't seen them change much in the last 40 years, except for acceptance of gay people. (not the right wing evangelicals, and there's lots of them here).
I didn't want to say anything, as most on this board will reject my opinions, and that's fine, but there are many people out there with differing opinions, and that is why gun control is going nowhere nationally until there is some electoral change.
And looking at the current Repub candidates, I don''t see that happening soon.
