Didn't Amazon just announce they were going to stop selling confederate flags? That would explain the run on them.

I suspect you have some insight into the mentality of South Carolina.

Also a historic flag maker, Valley Forge Flags, will stop make the Confederate flag. E Bay and Walmart will not sell them among others.

The Valley Forge Flags will probably become valuable as a collectors item??

For sure. I think it's a cool-looking flag and should be a representation of the best parts of Southern life. Too bad it's been irreparably tainted by racists spurred on by self-serving politicians. Take it down.

I agree with this. I've always thought it was a cool flag. And I've always enjoyed my time in the south and have always liked the people. I think I saw where they may take it off the General Lee car - stuff like that I think is unfortunate. But I can certainly understand why people would oppose it flying at a state capital.

It has been co-opted. I saw a 20 something year old kid in York flying one out the back of his Wrangler the other day. I was confused.

York is more southern than you realize. 18 mile straight shot down 83 to the Mason-Dixon line and the Maryland Line Inn!

It would be great if the flag could only be about Lynyrd Skynrd, Nascar, college football and being a "rebel". I always thought it was harmless. Most white southerners are not anti-black. At least they weren't when I lived there in the 70's.

But obviously right now, a meaningful minority of haters and outright killers are feeding off it. I think the interwebs and the 24 hours news cycle has helped spark the flames by connecting the nut cases.

Maybe in another century, we can bring it back.

York is bad, but Adams County is worse. Buncha wannabe reb poseurs.

For sure. I love York. I've always thought it had a southern feel. SB is right about Adams County. My in-laws have a cabin out there. The neighbor used to fly a Confederate flag. Of course you have Gettysburg right there so that plays into it some. I would hate to see Gettysburg have to change anything.

I read that the National Park Service has asked Gettysburg gift shops to remove the Confederate flag from the stores. That's ridiculous to me. This is once place where the symbol has some historical context, and pretending it never existed is just revisionist bullshit.

This is the area I have a problem with. The Confederate flag should be kept in the gift shops of NPS Civil War sites. It belongs there and in museums of history. Obviously, take it down from on top/in front of government buildings on public property. But to take the flag out of gift shops on the sites where it was used historically?
