I've only been loosely following the whole 'tank the season, get a good draft pick', but if the master plan works, what year are the Sixers supposed to start being good again? Next season? Season after?

I think it really depends on Embiid. If he's out again, I wouldn't expect the Sixers to be too much better next season (25-30 wins). Next year they will have 3 or 4 first round picks and a ton of cap space, so I would expect them to start being competitive in 2017.

And to answer your question honestly...I dont know. And neither does anyone else. Obviously IF they manage to luck out and draft a franchise difference-maker it could be next year, but we are talking about a huge "if." Just as many ifs can take it the other way or keep it stagnant.Officially awaiting Douchebagnacht II since

Me either, but I think they need to make a statement tonight that they have their foot on the gas. They still won't be very good next year, but they need to get players who can start contributing. Have to take Russel if he is there at 3. Hopefully Embiid plays this year and they get tons of draft picks, Saric and cap space heading into 2017 when things really need to start moving."Listen to McCarthy" - Art Vandelay

I know everything is a huge if, especially teams that play in The City of Chickenly Choke, but I got the answer I was curious about.
I'll never be anything more than bandwagoner with the Sixers, but they might be the Philadelphia frontrunner for next playoff appearance in this initial four-team drought.

I agree with the thoughts on Embiid. I actually think they could be a playoff team (7 or 8) in the East if he's healthy and if Russell ends up being a true top-3 pick.
