  • Duce was interviewed

    Check the box?

I would guess just to check the box. But he's always been a favorite player of mine. Still wear the jersey. I hope they keep him on the staff.

Apparently Lurie is a big supporter of Duce. I don't think he's the favorite to get the job, but I think they're giving him a legit chance. Not just a Rooney thing. He's in-house, understands the team. Why not? Maybe he wows them in an interview. Lurie did jump FF from QB coach @ GB to HC.

There are no other AA coach candidates being looked at, like Hue Jackson.

I like me some Duce an' all but if they hire Duce fucking Staley to be the head coach of this team, I will buy a container of crab fries, take a shit in it, and leave it at Nova Care.

That would be on par with the Castelio for DC move.

I don't know if it was a serious interview, a Rooney Rule thing, or maybe a mutual thing between Lurie and Staley to give him some experience for the future.

Either way if a guy comes in and knows his stuff, why not hire him. After 3 years of Chips I'm willing to give ANYONE else a try.

We don't know how the interview went. What if Duce is a really knowledgeable guy with great leadership skills....Why not him?

I'm not sure about that. Hue Jackson is coaching a team in the playoffs. His availability for interviews is tightly controlled. If Lurie is blown away by a candidate but hasn't had an opportunity to interview Jackson due to scheduling, that would be complicating.

Also, Duce has been a loyal son of Philadelphia for a long time. Being interviewed for a HC position helps his career, even if he's not in serious consideration. Lurie owes him that much, especially if there's a possibility the next HC might not retain him.

I'm glad he's getting interviewed, just like I hope Shurmur is interviewed. They have both been with the organization through transitional years before, and their insight on what the team needs now is invaluable.

That being said, I'd be very disappointed if either of them actually got the job.

He's coached one year as an intern ... one year as the special teams quality control coach, whatever the fuck that is ... and three years as a running backs coach.

Good point about having the Rooney Rule out of the way in case they get a guy they want before they can get to Jackson.

I'm sure the interview is de rigueur. It would be a disservice to Duce and the team to throw him into that job without more experience.

And would be a huge risk from a PR perspective considering what just happened.

                            Check this out ...

“He likes to show off his old films,” Damani said of his father, who is the running backs coach for the Eagles. “My dad was pretty good back in the day"
                            Back in the day. Bwah!

I suppose it's good to keep the kids where they grew up but it has to be tough with him up in Philadephia for over half the year.
