I'd be ok with the Eagles hiring him but it would need to be for a fixed time and they would have to have a determined succession plan in place.

          Interesting that Howie wasn't included.

EDIT - Nevermind. Looks like they met privately first and then did the interview with everyone.

The way the Vagiants ran it with the Fire Marshall is that they kept extending his contract one year at a a time. So he was never a lame duck per se ... he had an extra year after the current one on his contract, but in reality he was always on the hot seat.

I'm coming around a little bit to the possibility. There's something to be said for stability and a proven commodity. He might be able to coach longer than we think. But yeah, a succession plan would be a must almost from the start.

It's like saying u feel ok kissing a chick with a cold sore.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Some people are born with cold sores. Doesn't mean they aren't ok otherwise.

Is it a cold sore shaped like a Lombardi trophy?

Coughlin is okay with you? U have the inside scoop being a new York resident. Maybe my hatred of the rivalry is clouding my judgement.

He would not be my first choice, but they could do far worse, IMO.

If they were to hire him they would need to have a clear succession plan in place, IMO.

I'd be ok with them hiring Shurmur if they could get a strong DC. Problem is that the things seem mutually exclusive.

Being out of the NY market for about 5 years now (after living in it for 30 years) has simmered my blind hatred for that team. IMO, this is the most important thing about Coughlin: He was going to lose his job in 2005/6 because he was very much like Chip Kelly in the way he treated players. A big game by Tiki Barber in week 17 got them a playoff spot and saved him, but the team had more or less quit already. He looked in the mirror and completely changed his philosophy about how he dealt with pro athletes. After that season he lightened up, the players started believing in him and he won a SB within a year or two.

From that perspective, he would be exactly what this team needs. My problem is that I don't think he is a great game day coach anymore (if he ever was). But, maybe a change of scenery would do him well. Seems to have for Reid. I'd have to hold my nose, but I could see it being a good thing. Also, Giants fans would go absolutely ape shit which would be a nice plus.

Out of all the names and those interviewed Shurm seems the best so far. He knows who can catch, and who can tackle. Would players want to resign if a temp plan was in place for Cough?
