  • OT: Retired Igglephans

So I preface this question with the fact that my father just retired after 41 years at the same company, started there the day after he graduated high school and has been there since, Ford New Holland if anyone knows it. Obviously I am very proud of him and head over heels that he finally retired.

With that said, what are some part time jobs that you retired cats have gotten into since leaving the workforce? I am trying to get him some ideas because I know he won't be able to just sit around. He doesn't need a ton of pay, everything is paid off minus his new truck, but something that he could enjoy and make a little play money doing would be nice. He enjoys golf and the Iggles, I already suggested part time work at a golf course and Philly is too far for him to drive to work for the Iggles

Any suggestions at all are greatly appreciated!

My dad has a hat that identifies him as a certified tan line inspector. That sounds like a good gig.

I know a guy who retired that was.....

....working for an auto parts store delivering parts to various garages in the area. He liked it because it was only for a few hours a day. You have to like driving though. What was good was that he didn't have to travel too far away from home and no one was on his a$$. Another one he could do is most of these car dealerships offer a shuttle service when you drop your car off for servicing. He could drive them to work after they drop off their car or pick them up later in the day and take them back to the dealer.

Based on the broad sample of posters here who are actually retired, I think your answer is going to be limited to "Write a book about Red Klotz"

I'm actually glad you brought this up, because I'm going to be in the same predicament starting in December of 2037.

Yessir, been there since 18 they had an early retirement package and he took it. Was getting sick of the commute, especially in the snow.

Which sorry for you Northeast cats, looks like more is coming your way.. ugh

Love the car dealership idea, didn't think of that one. Not sure if he will be down with the parts gig but I will definitely mention the dealer one to him! Thanks TGP!!

I will be retired in 230 days

                        But who's counting?

I have no plans to work again, but might volunteer at a charity some hours a week. Tho I've fooled with the idea of taking a job somewhere just to get fired since I've never been fired before - a bucket list item! Basic plan is to ride, run, fish, hunt, golf, try to restore an old muscle car, watch the iggles choke the chicken, etc. etc

Right now plan is to stay in stinkin NJ another 2 years until ric jr graduates. But we've started looking - most likely either south Carolina or florida. Definitely gonna bail out of nj for the winter next few years
