Does not change the fact we came very close to a nuclear war. I do not consider wanting to avoid a nuclear war "nonsense talk".

Even Margaret Thatcher lobbied the Reagan led US government to cool things down. Was she engaging in "nonsense talk"?
Cabinet memos and briefing papers released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that a major war games exercise, Operation Able Archer, conducted in November 1983 by the US and its Nato allies was so realistic it made the Russians believe that a nuclear strike on its territory was a real possibility.

When intelligence filtered back to the Tory government on the Russians' reaction to the exercise, the prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, ordered her officials to lobby the Americans to make sure that such a mistake could never happen again.

      More nonsense talk

Reagan was equally shocked regarding the soviet reaction to able archer. Kinda flies in the face of the nonsense talkers that think he really wanted to start a nuclear war

I've already read that web page.

Again, your characterization of people's concerns about Reagan leading us into a nuclear war as "nonsense talk" doesn't change the fact that a nuclear war was almost started while the Reagan administration was in power.

Even Margaret Thatcher lobbied Reagan to cool it! Thankfully he (and we) were lucky.

I did give him credit for later realizing that his bellicose nature and actions were putting the world at risk.

And a SAC base was 150 miles downwind from me, potential nuclear war was scary.
