I agree, but NBC does not. Let's see how they cover the track and field events.

P.S. How crazy is it that Phila. captured NBC from NYC? They still have studios in NYC for show but the bulk of the operations are more and more moving to Phila.

We have 6 channels broadcasting every event imaginable here. The CBC is great at covering the olympics. At least we have something good here on tv every 4 years....

Meh. Women's gymnastics has always been huge.

And Mikey Phelps may very well be the greatest athlete the US has produced in the last half century or possibly since Jim Thorpe.

John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

              agreed on Phelps' greatness but

swimming was always an Olympic fringe sport before he came along. Chicks do dig the gymnastics, and the tv ratings show it.

Just talking for me...its all about track. And field!

                I know. Disagree though about

Swimming popularity because Mark Spitz and that porn stache of his had the ladies and DQ squealing back in the day

Men's 400 meter finals shaping up to be quite a contest Sunday eve, might even approach Michael Johnson's WR given the 3 guys battling

                      http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...ce-in-rio.html

“Most athletes have run the 400 meters at least once,” Richards-Ross said.
“And most athletes never want to run it again.”

“The track is 400 meters. It’s made for the 400.”
Whether or not athletes are made for the 400, though, is still under debate.”

400m is a brutal race; too long for the sprinters, too short for the distance runners.

my dear late friend Larry James (RIP) disagrees

the gold and silver medalist (400-relay gold and a world record and 400 individual silver --also a WR but still edged out at the tape by Tommie Smith) Mexico City '68...reamed me out for calling it middle distance...he said "It's a SPRINT...one that will put hair on your chest."

Agreed its a brutal test whatever you call it!

If Mycock was broadcasting track or swimming he would compliment the competitors for "maintaining their lane integrity."

(stole that from a reader, quoted in Phil Mushnick's column in the NY Post today)

Ken, were you watching live when the CBC announcer got the lanes of Lochte and Phelps confused? It's a good thing that Lochte's friends and family (most likely) weren't watching CBC.

No but I saw the replay of it and in typical Canadian style he apologized profusely.
