I live in Palmer Ranch which is just north of Venice in Sarasota. Palmer Ranch has several neighborhoods that are within the Venice school district. In fact, my wife wants to move within the Venice district ( I'm disagreeing with her at the moment). I've been here 22 years and can ramp you up on the area in general... restaurants... Plumbers.. Roofers... HVAC...
Just in case you have doubts... You made the best choice to live along the entire west coast, IMO.
Where are you? North Venice? BTW, I hear Bill Parcells moved to Venice
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.
This ... plus, it's not traditional to stand up when the national anthem is played on television in private (removed from the actual event) ... but it is traditional to do so when you are actually at a public gathering, and specifically at sports events.
More importantly, Kapernick by his own admission intentionally disrespected the anthem/flag ... while people who don't stand when it's played on television aren't doing that, are they?

I did a bike ride up the legacy trail from the hotel we were staying at in Venice. Turned around at Palmer Ranch parkway!
We're buying in a development still under construction off Tamiani trail east of south venice. Waiting for them to open the lot up we want for new construction. Should be done by June or so next year if goes to plan.

There is much development down in south Venice. Sounds like you are somewhere near River Road or Jacaranda? On I 75 I'm off of Clark Road which is exit 205 and Jacaranda is exit 192. That's 13 miles give or take.
I actually had to look that up yesterday. Growing up, I was taught that the hand over the heart thing was done for the pledge, but not for the anthem. Standing, sure...but not the hand thing. Apparently I was wrong!
For what it's worth, the military base where I work plays the anthem over the outside loudspeakers each morning at 8 AM. It can be vaguely heard in the office bulidings...but nobody stands up, and usually nobody even takes a break in their conversation to observe the event. And that includes active service members and civilian employees.
Just east of Rockley. We looked at houses in there (Plantation) but too geezery. Also a golf community wasn't really needed, wifey doesn't play. The community we'll be in is Gran Paradiso
