Been on a high-gay-tiss from this place for a few weeks, even prior to coming here tonight and seeing all this dogshit.
I said it at the last GAYte. The Bored hasn't been much fun to me anymore, and that was always my main agenda here: fun.
It had nothing to do with politics. In my view, the community was being tainted by a small group of basement-dwelling, agenda-driven n00bs who injected themselves in almost every thread, rendering them un-readable to me. When I suggested as much, I was shouted down, which is fine. Say what you feel, feel what you say.
This crap is different. Politics discussions here have never been cool. The unwritten rule was make a political statement at your own risk and they were tolerated within reason and the mods nuked the ones that got out of hand.
I've been roaming around this planet for more years than I like to admit and this bored since its inception. I have to go back to the height of the Vietnam war to find a more divisive time in the US of A. The ideas of shaking up Washington's status quo, increasing national security, continuing to fix the economy and other issues need to be addressed. Regardless of what label the opposite side tags you with, most of us would agree.
However, civility, compromise, respect for others' opinions and good old American tolerance has given way to mocking disabilities, threatening women with sexual violence, condemning entire nations and religions.
Each side points fingers. To the 40-something percent of the popular vote who went for the President, he is doing a great job of moving decisively. To the Democrats who could not connect with their own traditional power base and lost the election as a result, he is a narcissistic threat to the constitution and all things Americans hold dear.
The truth, of course falls somewhere in between, but neither side will give ground. Name-calling, violence and general frustration rules the day.
Igglephans is supposed to be a haven from all of this. We are part of a message board that spawned real friendships and showed the rest of the internet how its supposed to be done. The most knowledgeable, passionate and irreverent fans had a place to vent, laugh, watch each others' kids grow up and make something bigger than a message board. No ads, no censorship, no cuss-filters...just real talk the way only we can talk it. We can do it again.
Stop it, guys. Just stop it. We're supposed to be above the nastiest fray. Let's get back to being Igglephans.
That is all.
