  • This shitpile is symptomatic of a shit time in America

Been on a high-gay-tiss from this place for a few weeks, even prior to coming here tonight and seeing all this dogshit.

I said it at the last GAYte. The Bored hasn't been much fun to me anymore, and that was always my main agenda here: fun.

It had nothing to do with politics. In my view, the community was being tainted by a small group of basement-dwelling, agenda-driven n00bs who injected themselves in almost every thread, rendering them un-readable to me. When I suggested as much, I was shouted down, which is fine. Say what you feel, feel what you say.

This crap is different. Politics discussions here have never been cool. The unwritten rule was make a political statement at your own risk and they were tolerated within reason and the mods nuked the ones that got out of hand.

I've been roaming around this planet for more years than I like to admit and this bored since its inception. I have to go back to the height of the Vietnam war to find a more divisive time in the US of A. The ideas of shaking up Washington's status quo, increasing national security, continuing to fix the economy and other issues need to be addressed. Regardless of what label the opposite side tags you with, most of us would agree.

However, civility, compromise, respect for others' opinions and good old American tolerance has given way to mocking disabilities, threatening women with sexual violence, condemning entire nations and religions.

Each side points fingers. To the 40-something percent of the popular vote who went for the President, he is doing a great job of moving decisively. To the Democrats who could not connect with their own traditional power base and lost the election as a result, he is a narcissistic threat to the constitution and all things Americans hold dear.

The truth, of course falls somewhere in between, but neither side will give ground. Name-calling, violence and general frustration rules the day.

Igglephans is supposed to be a haven from all of this. We are part of a message board that spawned real friendships and showed the rest of the internet how its supposed to be done. The most knowledgeable, passionate and irreverent fans had a place to vent, laugh, watch each others' kids grow up and make something bigger than a message board. No ads, no censorship, no cuss-filters...just real talk the way only we can talk it. We can do it again.

Stop it, guys. Just stop it. We're supposed to be above the nastiest fray. Let's get back to being Igglephans.

    That is all.

It's become a world of people shouting their opinions via "social" media, blogs, and whatever...and not taking time to analyze, question, and be a skeptic. It's far too easy to point fingers, "like" everything that fits your preconceived notion of the world, and just share everything without asking if it's true or not. It's an unhealthy existence, and I've always appreciated having a place where I can take a break from all of that nonsense.

I deactivated my facebook account yesterday after I woke up to one of my wife's crazier friends trying to get an ITYS at my expense by misrepresenting a conversation we had in a bar one night about Trump. Of course she didn't bother to tag me. She just thought I wouldn't see it or wouldn't catch it or whatever. It was bizarre but it realized that facebook stopped being fun.

I do still enjoy twitter, but I've come to the conclusion that social media is destroying this country, especially in this hyper-partisan, politics-as-a team-sport, consistency and facts be damned United States we are living in today. That sounds hyperbolic, but I really feel that way.

I wish I could just move to an island or a cabin in the woods somewhere.

is more true by the day. My friends don't tweet as much dumb political stuff as they post on facebook, so I agree there too.

Plus, so much more time on other things. Facebook is a monumental waste of time.

In this world of the Post Truth Culture, it's all about screaming at each other to prove that each "side's" opinions are The Truth. Whoever screams the loudest and repeats it the most claims it's The Truth. That ain't working.

                Besides, there's only one Truth.

                  Facebook use to be fun.....

...enjoyed talking to friends, particularly the ones a few time zones away.

It has become poisonous and full of "almighty " thinking. Its an easy excuse to be a keyboard hero.

I did forget to thank you for your kind holiday gesture......please forgive my tardiness.

                  Thank you.

Does he get a pass due to all the injuries? He's gonna lose OG and Bryant next year to the NBA so slim pickings for a while, I think...

I like Georges Idea from the gate; lets try to invent something that makes money off of the Trump Administration.. I thought my Donald blur app was a great Idea,, so sick of his face anytime it senses the Orange it would just blur his image, this way when I read some news or click on a linc I do not have to see that Ugly Tic Tac Face of his!

I still enjoy using facebook. I have a number of friends on there who I would not hear from otherwise that I enjoy hearing from. I also like to hear from my cousins, etc. on there.

Never had a facebook account. If I wanted to talk to the person I would have their phone number.

Plus, I would also probably have to block my sister and I would rather not deal with that either.

I just opened a facenutz account last summer. Good: making contact with many old friends and acquaintances. Bad: lots of stuff from close family and friends you can't unsee.

I had the "deactivate" button under my finger, and I was trying to remember my password (auto login is the devil sometimes). If I had remembered it at the time, I'd have put myself in FB purgatory right then and there.

I've started unfollowing lots of people, and even unfriending the worst offenders. I even went so far as to unfollow one of my kids who has been turning into a annoying SJW. It's a shame, because I like FB for being able to keep in touch with family, or with people I haven't seen in a long, long time. As much as it used to be awful to see what people were having for breakfast each day, that would be preferable to all the posturing and half truths constantly being pushed.
