They didn't have any interest in Charles, that's apparent. And I don't think they want Blount with his SB ring, his 18 TDs, and his rep in that locker room. I doubt they go to the scrap heap for a runner, and that's probably for the best. We've been down that road before and it always makes for shitty football. Better to go young when you can, see what you've got.
My best guess is, they're keeping Matthews through camp and they'll give Clement every opportunity to win that job from him.

Whether he will pass the physical it or not, and if the Eagles say he has ... whether he will contest it, I cannot answer ... but the reason he hasn't been released appears to be so the Eagles can avoid paying an Injury Protection Benefit that was negotiated in the last CBA.
