I feel like people underestimate the rate at which draft picks fail. For example, from 15-18, the Eagles were one of the most "successful" teams in the draft just by virtue of having a high percentage of picks still on the roster: https://overthecap.com/looking-at-nf...ss-since-2015/
Missing in the second round looks like Jaiquawn Jarrett. The bar for hitting is low. Nate Allen would be considered a "hit." Goedert and Sanders are definitely hits, and DeSean Jackson is a home run.
So...maybe Dougie and Howie thought that with the expanded postseason, and likely 17/18 game regular season on the horizon, a good backup was worth more than another Goedert or Sanders, and maybe even more than a Jackson?
As baffled as I was by the pick, maybe it's unfair to say it's worse than Smith/Watkins.
