Howie isn't great for personnel. He's gotten better, but he's not great. This past offseason was a disaster, his recent midseason trades have been flops, and his build-through-the-lines philosophy is outdated.

Having a real football man in the room would be huge. I'd prefer Vrabel over Belichick, and Harbaugh over both, but all of the above would be a massive upgrade over Sirianni. And their input would make Howie a lot better at his job, especially when it comes to finding defensive talent.

I think Lurie is content to sit back and hang with Bradley Cooper when they're winning. The meddling comes when his coaches (or his GM) embarrass him.
