I wonder how this works for charitable donations. The teams themselves are likely for-profit so buying tickets to games probably can't be claimed.

What about buying tickets to the Super Bowl - especially all of the corporate tickets? Or what about and dues/fees that individual teams pay directly to the NFL? I wonder if that can be written off.

there is a difference between a 501(c)3 and 501(c)6. Namely, you cannot deduct donations. The NFL itself really is just the organization of several for profit businesses and frankly, it really can't exist without some anti-trust benefits (or at least that's what we're told).

Whether that's true or not, is certainly up for debate, but to call the NFL a charity in the sense that a 501(c)3 organization is, is not correct

EDITED to add: If you're complaining about donations not being enough, I get that. There's lots of issues wrong with charitable donations and how money, once donated, is handled.

2010 The NFL was deemed not to be a single entity but a " cartel" of 32 individual businesses ....thus being subject to antitrust laws...which explains the above article....blah blah blah.
