I'm a middle aged father of a high school student. And I'd like to think that after putting her on the bus in the morning she's not coming home in a body bag because some socially inept latchkey boy who spends the entire part of his day, not spent at therapy, playing violent video games with access to Daddy's stockpile decides to live out his video fantasy by trying to take out his classmates (see Padgett, Jared).

I used to be worried about just drinking and driving but this shit is scary and to take the cavalier attitude that it's just a blip, or 'it can't happen here' is ludicrous and naive.

Ric, I don't know if you have kids or not, but if you don't then you really have no business being in a debate over school shootings and safety.

    - and that's Mr. Dickhead to you

The data presented came from multiple sources, including Bloomberg. And you present zero data, zero facts, just idiotic opinion. Per usual

So am I. My son is a senior. We have multiple guns in our home (all locked up). My son and I are hunters. I don't fall for histrionic hype - I know schools are safer now than they were 20 years ago. I know there is no "epidemic" of school shootings (and the FBI says the same thing). I know my son is far more likely to be killed driving his car or away from school than at school. I think part of the solution is better gun control nationally, and fully support it.

            John Lott was your source

I posted no sources other than you and your "blip" on a radar comment, You don't think there is a solution to the violence problem and use a charlatan with false and made up data to " prove" your point. I exposed the weak sauce. You're welcome.

Thats pretty bad ass and very simple to use, one question what about the kids trapped in the hallway?

I mean background checks and psych evals coupled with smart gun technology could reduce the amount of school shootings significantly

Its a pretty smart non-gun solution, but it will get as much attention as it did in this thread. ( none)

As for the kids in the hallway...92.61% of the time they are in a class, especially at the elementary level.

Anything that is 90% effective is a good start and in combination with having to be "buzzed" into the building it gives the schools a first line of defense in keeping the bad guys away from the kids.

I agree as well that gun control nationally should be part of the solution, along with preventing people who have had any contact with a mental health professional, or who are receiving a mental health related prescription, from legally obtaining a gun without some sort of extended background check (or preferably not at all, me included).

But on the day my wife and I left for the hospital for the birth of our daughter we were watching on TV as kids were running out of Columbine high school, so maybe I'm more sensitive to 'histrionic hype' - which is just a callous comment to make on this subject.
