I like and support Chip Kelly. I worry about how his personnel decisions are perceived, especially since he doesn't seem to care about perception. These are not mutually exclusive stances.

Ok. Dan, so now let me ask you this, WHY should you have to "worry" about how personnel decisions are perceived, you my friend are being crushed by the elephant in the room and don't even realize it.

He shouldn't have to care about perception, in truth, NO ONE SHOULD!!!

      Maybe so.

I agree. They appear to be wrong to me in their perception. But the question is why are they seeing racism where most would agree none exists? Answering, "because they are wrong" or "because they are racist" is not overly helpful to dialogue (not on this Board, but in general).

A racist is someone who seeks to subjugate an entire race due to their race. I don't think most African Americans want to subjugate whites. Some might, though. And the name "racist" is appropriate for that small subset of African Americans.

Similarly, I don't think most whites want to subjugate African Americans. Wouldn't want to guess whether there are more whites seeking to subjugate African Americans versus African Americans seeking to subjugate whites. Unknowable. But probably (hopefully) small numbers on each "side."

But, only one of these groups have centuries of political, legal, societal and cultural history that brings with it a ghost of doubt.

If some African Americans see racism where there is none, maybe they are observing through the lens of those centuries of issues rather than seeking to subjugate whites. They are not racists, they are just coming from a different place.

Agree, unless of course you're in a business

in which part of your success is inexorably tied to African American men in their twenties. Then you might start caring about their perceptions, whether they are wrong or not.

How the phuck did this non-story-thread get to three pages? Pretty sure no one that posted enlightened anyone nor feels better for having this discussion. Crap like this just creates a divide. It's stupid and un-called for, perpetuated by some idiot talking head.

It's simple, you treat people how they treat you on an individual basis, if you really want to get into it doesn't even have to be a "Race" to have Racism.

When I grew up I constantly heard that I was from the wrong side of town, but I was the same color as the person talking?

Maniac I did read the title. The author was reporting on a bs story - that the guy (Stephen A Smith) started by mouthing off bs

You then add a comment that I would be happy about it. Fucktard you are the racist in the room.

I talk football you like Stephen A Smith and other jerks some how find racism in just about everything.

Yes the person who smelt it first is most likely the person who delt it is all I'm a saying.

It would be nice if we lived in a world like that, but we don't.

Show me a successful politician that doesn't consider perception. Same for the head of any major corporation.

Leaders need to consider perception, especially ones who operate in a public forum such as professional sports. Personnel decisions are one easy way for people to judge what it is you value. Chip's policy this off-season of not clearly explaining personnel decisions and the thought process behind them makes him even more susceptible to misperception.

He can control the narrative, but he chooses not to. The longer he does this, the more people will begin to connect the dots and come to their own conclusions.

I'm not buying your subjugate argument

Your definition seems quite archaic to me.

In simple language, racism today is simply the extreme dislike or hatred of a group of people for no other reason than they exist.

The racist may have some anecdotal stories to explain his feelings, but they're rarely relevant to their feelings.

Smith's comments were the very stuff of which racism is made. Wild accusation with absolutely nothing on which to base the accusation.

I'll admit, I find this event extremely distressing. I think all 3 hosts on the show should be suspended with Smith fired. There's no place in society for this shit.

As I said, Individual Basis, I wonder if Jason Peters thinks Chip is a Racist?

I personally think Chip's "Culture" is about one thing and one thing only, winning Football games and the people that give their undivided attention and work ethic to that end,

you ARE from the wrong side of town! But so am I. So that makes us both from the right side. Or something.

But by your definition I'm a racist if I hate aging hippies who wear shit brown coveralls. I think a racist thinks he/she is better or entitled to more than the victim of racism, not just that he hates them.

But I do agree entirely that SAS's Ponzi Scheme of Outrage should not be tolerated. Unless, unless, unless he was just reporting on some people's perceptions. In which case, I still say we figure out why they have that perception.

But if there is a perception that he is racist, you agree that would not be a great thing in his GM role, correct?

boo hooing is justified. Like if I had someone slash your tires in the parking lot. Or if your grandfather was lynched. Just saying.
